Hornsplitter Boss Guide

Hornsplitter is considered one of the first major difficulty spikes in Crimson Desert. Many players get stuck here, but with the right preparation and strategy, it’s very manageable.

Boss Overview

LocationKarin Quarry (Hernand region)
Recommended Level12-15
WeaknessFire damage, side attacks
ResistanceIce, frontal attacks
Phases3 phases
RewardsMining Knuckledrill, Contribution Points

Phase 1: 100% — 70% HP

Hornsplitter starts with slow but powerful overhead slam attacks:

  • Horn Charge — runs straight at you with its horns
    • Dodge sideways (not backward)
  • Ground Slam — rears up and smashes the ground
    • Dodge right, then punish the recovery window
  • Stomp Combo — two quick stomps in succession
    • Block the first, dodge the second

Key timing: After every Ground Slam, there’s a 2-second window to land 3-4 hits on the side.

Phase 2: 70% — 30% HP

Hornsplitter becomes more aggressive and adds:

  • AoE Earthquake — damages in a radius around the boss
    • Run away when you see the ground crack animation
  • Double Charge — charges twice in quick succession
    • Dodge the first, wait for the second, then punish
  • Throwing Rocks — picks up and hurls boulders
    • Use pillars/cover to block

Phase 3: 30% — 0% HP (Enraged)

The boss enters enraged mode:

  • Glowing red eyes and faster attack speed
  • New attack: Spinning Charge — rapid circular charge
  • All existing attacks become faster

Critical: Use your Palmar Pill at the START of Phase 3. If you die and restart, you want to save it for this phase.

  4. Use Shield Charge to break super armor — creates openings
  5. If struggling, go do side quests — come back 2-3 levels higher
